Port Sudan – October 7, 2025
As part of its preparations to celebrate World Post Day, the Sudanese Postal Services Company (Sudapost) has announced a package of development initiatives and special discounts on all its postal services on October 9, marking the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.

The Universal Postal Union… From Bern to the World

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is the world’s second-oldest international organization, established in response to the need to unify the diverse postal systems and services among nations to facilitate the free flow of international mail.
Its origins date back to September 15, 1874, when the Swiss government convened an international conference in Bern, attended by representatives from 22 countries. After several weeks of deliberation, the Treaty of Bern was signed on October 9, 1874, establishing the “General Postal Union,” which was later renamed the Universal Postal Union in 1878 following rapid expansion in membership.
Today, the UPU includes 192 member countries and has been a specialized agency of the United Nations since July 1, 1948, having succeeded in transforming a complex network of postal systems into a single unified postal territory that facilitates the seamless exchange of mail across borders.

Sudapost… Commitment to Development and Openness

Reflecting the spirit of international cooperation embodied by the UPU, Sudapost continues to modernize and expand its services both locally and globally.
The company was recognized by the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority for its outstanding achievement in reactivating domestic and international postal services within a remarkably short time, despite the challenges faced by state institutions in recent years.

In celebration of World Post Day, the company announced exceptional discounts on all its postal services on October 9 and 10, inviting customers to take advantage of these special offers.

“Local Service… Global Reach” – Theme for 2025

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Local Service… Global Reach,” underscoring the postal sector’s role as a deeply rooted public service that fosters communication, development, and global connectivity.

A Promising Future for Sudan’s Postal Sector

For Sudapost, World Post Day is more than an annual event — it represents a renewed vision for revitalizing Sudan’s postal network and strengthening its role in connecting the nation locally and globally.
Through its continued commitment to service development and engagement with international postal frameworks under the UPU, Sudapost reaffirms its determination to remain an active platform serving citizens and a key driver of digital transformation and national economic growth; Sudapost is also striving to implement the government’s e-governance policy and support the country’s digital transformation, by adopting innovative technological solutions and expanding its range of electronic and logistical services to align with global postal developments.
